The winter doldrums are almost upon us.

If you’re not sure where your winter travels should take you, it’s time to get inspired.
1. The Maldives
Located to the west of India and Sri Lanka sits the Republic of Maldives, an island nation composed of 26 atolls and filled with some of the best views and beaches the planet has to offer. The best time of year to head here is between November and April; the rest of the year is the rainy season. Due to the island’s popularity, you can expect to reach deep into your wallet if you find yourself in the Maldives during the busy season. But you only live once, and it’s only money, right?
One of Central America’s hidden gems is Belize, a former British colony that perhaps doesn’t get as much credit as it deserves. In addition to having beautiful beaches, Belize is also home to breathtaking national parks, nature reserves, an awe-inspiring barrier reef, and even Mayan ruins. If you’re looking to get away during the winter, Belize may be just the place you’ve been looking for all along.
3. Koh Lanta
When you think of Thailand, Koh Lanta might not be the first thing that pops into mind. But this hidden gem of an island is a great place to get away from it all and unwind. Unlike other more popular Thai islands, Koh Lanta isn’t highly developed. So, you get to enjoy paradise without all the hullabaloo that most tourist traps are known for. Whether your idea of a good time is zipping around a relatively low-key island on a moped or kicking back on a beach all afternoon, this place has it all.
4. French Polynesia
Made up of roughly 100 islands—including Tahiti and Bora Bora, the two household names of the bunch—French Polynesia is an incredible place to get away in the south Pacific Ocean. Whether you opt to visit the brand-name spots or decide to take a more obscure route and hit up somewhere like Raiatea or Nuku Hiva, you can’t really go wrong.
No list of winter getaways would be complete without Hawaii, which became the 50th state in 1959. If you’ve never made it to this oceanic oasis, you’re missing out. From incredible volcanic views to breathtaking beaches, Hawaii has it all. If you’re a resort kind of person, you’ll have no shortage of top-notch places to stay. If you prefer something more authentic, you’ll have an easy time finding a dynamite place on Airbnb. Heading here during the coldest time of the year will be an experience you won’t forget anytime soon.
At some point in your life, you need to make it to Bali, an incredible island located in Indonesia that you have to see with your own eyes to truly believe. This place has it all, including a favorable climate all year round, beautiful rainforests, and beaches the world’s greatest painter would have a hard time imagining. Make sure you buy a roundtrip ticket. Otherwise, you may never leave the island.
7. Costa Rica
There’s a reason why Costa Rica is the most popular tourist destination in Central America. The country is gorgeous, quite simply. Each year, upwards of 1 million Americans make the trek down to Costa Rica to check out the country’s impeccable beaches and thriving national parks. Hike through nature you can’t find anywhere else all day before lounging on the beach at night. What’s not to like?
An independent country since 1976, Seychelles is a nation of islands located 1,000 miles off the coast of eastern Africa. The country is home to an incredible collection of animal species, otherworldly climate, and more beautiful sights than it’s possible to describe. The weather here hovers in a comfortable range all year round. So if you can’t make it here this winter, any other time of the year will do, too.
Going somewhere warm doesn’t necessarily mean you need to kick back on the beach all day. While Namibia might not be as popular a destination as neighboring South Africa, the vast and sparsely populated country is home to a collection of incredible animals—not to mention an awesome culture and a great people. If you’re looking for somewhere to really get away, Namibia may be just what the doctor ordered. Solitude is easy to find here.
10. Punta Cana
A golfer’s paradise? Check. A beachgoer’s dream? Check. A snorkeling fan’s delight? Check. As the nation’s most popular tourist destination, Punta Cana is one of the Dominican Republic’s worst kept secrets. There’s a simple reason for that: It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, filled with great food, great culture, and great scenery. And the best part? If you’re coming from Europe or the United States, it’s not that far, either.
Whether you’re looking to kick back on a beach, check out some ancient ruins, or get up close and personal with some incredible animals, one thing’s for certain: You’ve worked hard this year and deserve to treat yourself to some R&R whenever you end up.
With all these winter travels, you’ll want to add a few essential pieces to your suitcase. That is where Volcom comes in... They have everything you need for both sun and snow destinations, but you know here at DFC we prefer the sun 😉
